Spying for the Union

Although generally less well-known than their Confederate counterparts, they still played a role in the war. It is often more difficult to piece together their stories, but a couple are sufficiently famous and a good deal of information is known about them. Union spies shared a sense of patriotism and bravery similar to that which united the women of the South. Many of them were just as persistent and determined. They had to have an excess of ingenuity and creativity to be able to find ways to gather information and escape detection.
