Although there were many Union female spies as well, Confederate womens' spying careers are better documented. There is often not enough information to recreate an accurate picture of women spies' lives. But there are lots of interesting tidbits lying around.
However, it can be more fascinating to learn about the lives of the few well-documented women. A few of their stories can be found on the following pages. Their ingenuity in the face of adversity is no less than awe inspiring. Even though many people condemn the South today, there is no doubt that these women truly believed in their cause and were courageous despite their out of favor views.
